Description

The QFX5120 is a fixed-configuration 1U data centre leaf and top-of-rack switch running Junos OS. This DC-powered variant suits data centre and telco sites that use DC power, and is well matched to 25GbE server access with 100GbE uplinks, including EVPN-VXLAN fabrics and edge-routed gateways for virtualised and bare-metal servers.

It provides 48 SFP28 downlink ports supporting 25GbE, 10GbE and 1GbE, plus 8 QSFP28 uplink ports supporting 100GbE and 40GbE, with breakout cable support. Switching throughput is 2 Tbps unidirectional (4 Tbps bidirectional) with 2 Bpps forwarding capacity. This SKU uses back-to-front airflow (AFI, airflow in) with two 650W DC power supplies in a 1+1 redundant arrangement and five fan modules in a 4+1 arrangement, all hot-swappable.

The switch accepts SFP28, SFP+ and SFP optics and DACs in the downlink ports, and QSFP28 and QSFP+ optics and DACs in the uplink ports. Power supplies and fan modules must use matching AFI airflow. It ships with base Junos software features, while advanced routing features need an optional software subscription.

Q: Does this switch need a software licence?
A: It runs Junos OS and ships with the base software features. Advanced routing features such as OSPF, BGP, IS-IS and MC-LAG need an optional software subscription, for example the QFX5120 Advanced 1 three-year term licence (S-QFX5K-C1-A1-3).

Q: What power does this variant use?
A: It uses two 650W DC power supplies (JPSU-650W-DC-AFI) in a 1+1 redundant arrangement with dual DC feeds. Maximum DC consumption is 342 W and average consumption is 319 W.

Q: What optics and cables does it work with?
A: The 48 downlink ports accept SFP28, SFP+ and SFP optics and DACs, and the 8 uplink ports accept QSFP28 and QSFP+ optics and DACs. Juniper's Hardware Compatibility Tool lists the full supported transceiver range.

Q: What does AFI airflow mean for installation?
A: AFI means airflow in, moving back to front through the chassis. The power supplies and fan modules must both be AFI types, as airflow direction has to match across all of them. The fan module model is QFX5110-FANAFI.

Q: Can two of these switches be managed as one?
A: Yes. Junos virtual chassis is supported with up to 2 member devices.
