FAQs

Q: What licenses are included with the N3K-C3172PQ-FD-L3 bundle?
A: This bundle includes both Base and LAN Enterprise licenses, enabling full Layer 3 routing capabilities including advanced protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VRFs, and multicast routing (PIM-SM, MSDP). These licenses are pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Q: Can the QSFP+ ports be used for 10GbE connectivity?
A: Yes, each of the 6 QSFP+ ports can operate in native 40 Gigabit Ethernet mode or be broken out into 4x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports using appropriate breakout cables, providing flexible uplink and connectivity options.

Q: What is the difference between forward airflow and reverse airflow models?
A: The FD designation indicates forward airflow (port-side exhaust), where air enters through the fan tray and power supplies and exits through the ports. This is designed for hot-aisle/cold-aisle data center deployments where equipment exhausts hot air into the hot aisle.

Q: Is this switch suitable for low-latency applications?
A: Yes, the Nexus 3172PQ is a true phy-less switch optimized for ultra-low latency, making it ideal for high-frequency trading, financial applications, and other latency-sensitive workloads requiring line-rate Layer 2 and Layer 3 performance.

Q: Does this model support virtual PortChannel (vPC)?
A: Yes, the switch supports vPC technology for Layer 2 multipathing, enabling redundant links without Spanning Tree Protocol blocking, improved bandwidth utilization, and simplified network topologies with dual-homed servers.
