FAQs

Q: Can the QSFP+ ports be used for 10GbE connectivity?
A: Yes, each QSFP+ port can operate in native 40GbE mode or be broken out into 4x 10GbE ports using appropriate breakout cables or transceivers, supporting up to 256x 10G ports across the switch.

Q: What Layer 3 routing features are available on the Nexus 3164Q?
A: The base software includes fundamental Layer 3 features. Advanced Layer 3 unicast and multicast routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIPv2, PIM-SM, SSM, MSDP) require the optional LAN Enterprise license.

Q: Is this switch suitable for top-of-rack data center deployments?
A: Absolutely. The Nexus 3164Q is designed specifically for top-of-rack and end-of-row data center deployments, offering ultra-high port density, low latency, and wire-rate Layer 2/3 switching in a compact 2RU chassis.

Q: Does the N3K-C3164Q-40GE support advanced automation and programmability?
A: Yes, it supports Cisco NX-API with JSON and XML over HTTP/HTTPS, Python scripting, Embedded Event Manager, Power-On Auto Provisioning (POAP), and integration with automation tools like Puppet and Chef.

Q: What is the end-of-life status for the Nexus 3164Q?
A: Cisco announced end-of-sale for the Nexus 3164Q in January 2023. While new units are no longer available from Cisco, the platform continues to receive software support and is widely available through the secondary market for organizations requiring ultra-high-density 40GbE switching.
