FAQs

Q: Can the QSFP+ ports be used for 10GbE connectivity?
A: Yes, each QSFP+ port can operate in native 40GbE mode or be broken out into 4x 10GbE ports using QSFP-to-SFP+ breakout cables or splitters, allowing up to 64x 10GbE ports total.

Q: What Layer 3 features are included with the LAN Enterprise license?
A: The bundled LAN Enterprise license enables full Layer 3 routing including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, static routing, multicast routing (PIM, IGMP), VRF-Lite, policy-based routing (PBR), and ECMP for load balancing across multiple paths.

Q: What is the difference between forward and reverse airflow models?
A: This FD model features forward airflow with port-side exhaust, designed for data centers with front-to-back cooling where cold air enters the front and hot air exhausts from the rear. The alternative reverse airflow models support back-to-front cooling architectures.

Q: Is this switch suitable for low-latency applications?
A: Yes, the Nexus 3016 is designed for ultra-low latency applications with sub-microsecond latency, making it ideal for high-frequency trading, real-time analytics, storage networking, and other latency-sensitive workloads.

Q: What cabling options are supported?
A: The switch supports both copper and fiber cabling including QSFP+ Direct Attach Copper (DAC) Twinax cables for short distances, QSFP+ optical transceivers for longer reaches, and QSFP-to-SFP+ breakout cables for 10GbE connectivity.
