Description

The Nexus 2348TQ Fabric Extender aggregates 48x 10GBASE-T server-facing ports with six QSFP+ fabric uplinks, extending a parent Nexus switch into the rack for simplified, centralized management. This 1RU platform includes dual hot-swappable PSUs, three hot-swap fans, and selectable airflow. QSFP+ uplinks support 40G or 4x10G breakout on supported parents and optics; optional FET or QSFP+ BiDi can be used for short-reach fabric links.

Features

- 48-port 10GBASE-T density for large rack deployments
- Six QSFP+ fabric uplinks scale bandwidth to the parent fabric
- Centralized management via parent Nexus; zero-touch operations at the rack
- Flexible fabric: 40G or 4x10G breakout on QSFP+ (where supported)
- Redundant, hot-swappable PSUs and fans; selectable airflow
- License-free hardware; rely on parent for features and policy
- Ideal for data center top-of-rack FEX architectures

FAQs

Q: Which Nexus parents support this FEX?
A: Nexus 5K/6K/7K/9K families with FEX support and compatible NX-OS releases. Check the specific release notes for model support.

Q: Is PoE available on the copper ports?
A: No. The RJ45 10GBASE-T ports are non-PoE.

Q: Do the QSFP+ uplinks support breakout?
A: Yes. Where supported, each QSFP+ fabric uplink can be split into 4x10G using breakout optics/cables.

Q: Are any licenses required on the FEX?
A: No. The FEX is license-free; licensing applies on the parent Nexus switch.

Q: What airflow options are available?
A: Both port-side intake and port-side exhaust options exist; PSUs and fans must match airflow direction.

Q: Can I dual-home the FEX to two parents?
A: Yes. Use vPC to dual-home fabric uplinks for active-active operation and resiliency.
