Description

The Arista DCS-7280SR3-40YC6-FLX-F is a high-performance 1RU data center switch router delivering 800 Gbps non-blocking throughput with 40x 25GbE SFP ports and 6x 100GbE QSFP28 uplinks. Built on a VOQ architecture with 2 GB HBM2 deep packet buffer and 3.8 µs latency, it provides full Layer 3 routing with BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN, VXLAN, and 512-way ECMP. The FLX license enables up to 256K routes with advanced routing protocols, making it ideal for cloud leaf-spine deployments, data center interconnect, and IP storage networks requiring lossless forwarding and internet-scale routing.

FAQs

Q: What license is included with the DCS-7280SR3-40YC6-FLX-F?
A: The FLX suffix indicates a FLX-Lite license is included, providing full routing capabilities up to 256K routes with EVPN, VXLAN, Segment Routing, and base MPLS LSR. For larger route tables up to 2M routes and advanced MPLS LER/LSR features, the full FLX license can be purchased separately.

Q: Can the QSFP28 uplinks be used for 25G connections?
A: Yes, the 6x 100GbE QSFP28 ports support breakout cables, allowing each port to function as 4x25GbE or 4x10GbE connections. This provides up to 24 additional 25G or 10G ports for maximum deployment flexibility.

Q: What is the difference between -F and -R airflow variants?
A: The -F suffix denotes front-to-rear airflow, where cool air enters from the non-port side and exhausts from the port side. The -R variant provides rear-to-front airflow. Select the appropriate model to match your data center hot aisle/cold aisle configuration.

Q: Is this switch suitable for VXLAN leaf-spine architectures?
A: Yes, the 7280SR3-40YC6 is purpose-built for cloud leaf-spine deployments. It supports VXLAN routing with hardware acceleration, EVPN with IRB, 512-way ECMP, and deep packet buffers for lossless forwarding under bursty traffic conditions typical in modern data centers.

Q: What management and automation features are supported?
A: The switch runs Arista EOS with CloudVision integration, Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP), comprehensive telemetry including LANZ and Accelerated sFlow, hardware-assisted IEEE 1588v2 PTP, streaming state database, and full API support via eAPI, JSON RPC, OpenConfig, and gNMI.
