FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the DCS-7280CR3K-32P4-R and the base DCS-7280CR3-32P4-R model?
A: The 'K' variant features the FlexRoute engine with expanded routing table capacity supporting over 5M IPv4 routes and 5M IPv6 routes, compared to the base model's 1.4M routes. The K variant also includes 64 GB system memory as standard and supports Algorithmic ACLs with over 100K rules, making it ideal for internet peering and large-scale routing deployments.

Q: What does the -R suffix indicate in the model number?
A: The -R suffix denotes rear-to-front airflow, where air flows from the fan side (non-port side) to the port side. This airflow configuration must match your data center cooling design. The -F suffix indicates front-to-rear airflow, and the # suffix indicates configurable airflow with field-selectable fan modules.

Q: Can the 100G QSFP28 ports support lower speed connections?
A: Yes, the 32 x 100G QSFP28 ports support flexible breakout configurations for 10G, 25G, 40G (QSFP+), and 50G speeds, allowing up to 96 total interfaces. This provides deployment flexibility for mixed-speed environments and seamless migration paths.

Q: What routing protocols does the DCS-7280CR3K-32P4-R support?
A: The switch router supports full Layer 3 routing including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE, BGP LU), Segment Routing Traffic Engineering (SR-TE), EVPN, VXLAN, and 512-way ECMP. It is designed for internet peering, data center interconnect, and spine-leaf architectures with internet-scale routing tables.

Q: Is the DCS-7280CR3K-32P4-R compatible with Arista CloudVision management?
A: Yes, the switch runs Arista EOS and is fully compatible with CloudVision for centralized network provisioning, monitoring, automation, and telemetry. It also supports standard management protocols including CLI, web GUI, SNMP, REST API, and embedded sFlow with accelerated sampling at wire speed.
