FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the CR3K and CR3 models?
A: The CR3K variant includes enhanced FlexRoute capabilities supporting over 256K routes (up to 5M with advanced profiles), significantly larger than standard CR3 models. This makes it ideal for Internet peering, carrier edge, and large-scale routing deployments.

Q: What does the FLX-R suffix indicate?
A: FLX indicates this model includes the FLX-Lite license for full routing capabilities with over 256K routes, EVPN, VXLAN, Segment Routing, and base MPLS LSR features. The R suffix denotes rear-to-front airflow, where cool air enters from the fan side and exhausts through the port side.

Q: Can the 400G QSFP-DD ports support lower speeds?
A: Yes, the QSFP-DD ports are flexible and support 400G, 200G, and 100G operation depending on the transceiver used. The 100G QSFP28 ports also support breakout to 50G, 40G, 25G, and 10G speeds.

Q: What network architectures is this switch designed for?
A: The 7280R3 series is purpose-built for cloud data centers, spine/leaf topologies, Internet peering, content delivery networks, IP storage networks, and data center interconnect applications requiring high-density 100G/400G and deep buffering.

Q: Does this model support Layer 3 routing protocols?
A: Yes, it supports full BGP routing (including MP-BGP), OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE, BGP-LU), Segment Routing, EVPN, VXLAN, and 512-way ECMP for advanced Layer 3 deployments and multi-path forwarding.
