FAQs

Q: What routing protocols are supported with the FLX license?
A: The FLX license enables full routing with support for up to 256K routes, including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, PIM, EVPN, VXLAN, Segment Routing, and base MPLS LSR functionality without traffic engineering or link/node protection.

Q: What is the difference between the FLX and base models?
A: The FLX license variant includes advanced Layer 3 routing capabilities with up to 256K routes, full MPLS support, and VXLAN overlay networking. The base model without FLX has more limited routing table sizes and does not include MPLS or advanced overlay features.

Q: Can this switch support port breakout configurations?
A: Yes, the 72x 100GbE QSFP ports support flexible breakout configurations including 4x25G, 4x10G, and 2x50G modes using appropriate optics, enabling deployment flexibility for mixed-speed environments.

Q: What optics are supported on this platform?
A: The 7280CR3A-72 supports a wide range of QSFP optics including 100GBASE-SR4, 100GBASE-LR4, 100GBASE-CWDM4, 100G-PSM4, 40GBASE-SR4, 40GBASE-LR4, 25G SFP28, 10G SFP+, and direct attach copper cables. Consult Arista's transceiver compatibility list for specific part numbers.

Q: Is this switch suitable for spine or leaf deployment?
A: The 7280CR3A-72 is optimized for spine, aggregation, and peering roles with its high port density, deep buffers, and large routing table support. It can also serve as a high-density leaf switch in large-scale data centers requiring 100GbE server connectivity.
