Description

The Arista DCS-7280CR3-32D4 is a high-performance data centre switch router delivering 4.8 Tbps throughput with 32 x 100GbE QSFP28 ports and 4 x 400GbE QSFP-DD uplinks. Built on the 7280R3 deep-buffer architecture with 8GB of packet buffer and Virtual Output Queueing, it provides lossless forwarding for demanding cloud, spine-leaf, and content delivery networks. Advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 capabilities include full BGP routing, VXLAN, EVPN, and internet-scale table support with Arista EOS.

Features

Dynamic deep buffering with 8GB HBM2 packet buffer and Virtual Output Queueing (VOQ) for lossless forwarding and congestion management
- Full Layer 3 routing with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE, BGP-LU), Segment Routing (SR-TE), and 512-way ECMP
- VXLAN bridging and routing with EVPN control plane for scalable overlay fabrics
- FlexRoute engine with flexible forwarding profiles supporting internet-scale routing (up to 1.4M IPv4 routes standard, 5M on -K models)
- Accelerated sFlow and IPFIX with hardware-based sampling at up to 1:500 rates for full wire-speed telemetry
- Algorithmic ACLs for scalable access control, policy-based forwarding, and network telemetry
- Inband Network Telemetry (INT) for real-time per-packet flow visibility and diagnostics
- Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588v2 PTP) with Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) for telecom-grade timing
- Hot-swappable redundant power supplies and fan trays for continuous uptime
- Arista EOS modular operating system with state-sharing architecture, in-service software upgrades (ISSU), and self-healing resiliency
- CloudVision network-wide automation, telemetry streaming, and centralised configuration management
- Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) for automated deployment and configuration
- Comprehensive optics support: 1G/10G/25G/40G/50G/100G/200G/400G with QSFP28, QSFP-DD, and breakout cable compatibility

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the DCS-7280CR3-32D4 and the 7280CR3K-32D4?
A: The 7280CR3K-32D4 variant includes expanded memory and enhanced FlexRoute profiles supporting up to 5 million IPv4 routes, optimised for large-scale internet peering and carrier edge deployments. The standard 7280CR3-32D4 supports up to 1.4 million routes, suitable for typical data centre spine-leaf and aggregation use cases.

Q: Can the 100GbE QSFP28 ports support breakout configurations?
A: Yes, each 100GbE QSFP28 port can be configured for 40GbE, or broken out into 4x25GbE or 4x10GbE interfaces using the appropriate optics and EOS software configuration, providing deployment flexibility for mixed-speed environments.

Q: Does this switch support VXLAN and network virtualisation?
A: Yes, the DCS-7280CR3-32D4 fully supports VXLAN routing and bridging with EVPN control plane, enabling scalable Layer 2 and Layer 3 overlay fabrics for modern multi-tenant cloud and data centre environments with hardware-accelerated forwarding.

Q: What airflow options are available for the DCS-7280CR3-32D4?
A: The switch is available in front-to-rear airflow (-F suffix for cold-aisle intake) and rear-to-front airflow (-R suffix for hot-aisle intake) configurations. The base SKU DCS-7280CR3-32D4 without suffix indicates configurable fans and power supplies.

Q: Is Arista EOS licensing required for this switch?
A: Arista switches ship with Arista EOS pre-installed and do not require separate licensing for core routing and switching features. Advanced features such as CloudVision integration may require separate subscriptions. Contact Arista or your authorised reseller for feature entitlement details.
