FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the 7260CX3-64E-F and the standard 7260CX3-64-F?
A: The Enhanced (-64E) model includes upgraded 1900W power supplies and high-speed fans that support 4.5W optics on all 64 ports, with select ports supporting up to 5W transceivers. The standard model uses 750W power supplies and supports lower-power optics. Both share the same port configuration and performance specifications.

Q: Can this switch be used in both leaf and spine roles?
A: Yes, the DCS-7260CX3-64E-F is optimized for both leaf and spine deployments in modern data center fabrics. Its high density of 100G ports, low latency, and wire-speed Layer 2/3 forwarding make it ideal for collapsed spine or middle-of-row architectures as well as traditional two-tier designs.

Q: What routing protocols and Layer 3 features are supported?
A: The switch supports comprehensive Layer 3 routing including OSPF, OSPFv3, BGP, MP-BGP, IS-IS, and RIPv2. Advanced features include 128 ECMP paths, VRF, BFD, VRRP, VARP, IPv4/IPv6 ACLs, and VXL AN for overlay networking. It runs Arista EOS for full SDN integration with CloudVision.

Q: Is the DCS-7260CX3-64E-F suitable for AI/ML workloads?
A: Yes, the switch includes a hardware AI Analyzer capability that collects ECMP utilization data at 100-microsecond granularity, enabling detailed analysis of AI/ML traffic patterns. Combined with 42 MB of dynamic packet buffer and sub-microsecond latency, it handles the burst traffic characteristic of GPU clusters.

Q: What airflow direction does the -F suffix indicate?
A: The -F suffix denotes front-to-rear airflow, meaning cool air is drawn in from the port side and exhausted out the rear. This is standard for hot-aisle/cold-aisle data center configurations where equipment fronts face the cold aisle.
