Description

The Arista DCS-7060CX5-56D8-R is a high-density 2RU data centre switch purpose-built for mixed-speed leaf and aggregation deployments. Delivering 56x100GbE QSFP100 ports and 8x400GbE QSFP-DD ports with 8.8 Tbps non-blocking throughput, it enables seamless fabric migrations between 100G and 400G generations. The rear-to-front airflow configuration supports data centres standardised on reverse cooling architecture, while Arista EOS provides full Layer 2/3 features, VXLAN/EVPN overlays, and telemetry for modern cloud-scale networks.

FAQs

Q: What deployment scenarios is the DCS-7060CX5-56D8-R suited for?
A: The CX5-56D8-R is optimised for mixed-speed aggregation and leaf deployments where 100G and 400G infrastructure coexist. It excels in fabric migrations between generations, aggregation layers serving mixed-speed leaf tiers, and edge deployments requiring flexible port speeds without needing separate platforms for each speed.

Q: What does the -R suffix indicate?
A: The -R suffix denotes rear-to-front (reverse) airflow, where cooling air enters from the PSU side and exhausts through the port side. This configuration is designed for data centres with hot-aisle containment or those standardised on reverse airflow architecture. For traditional front-to-rear airflow, the DCS-7060CX5-56D8-F variant is available.

Q: Can the 400G QSFP-DD ports be broken out to lower speeds?
A: Yes, the 8x 400G QSFP-DD ports support breakout configurations for 200GbE (2x200G per port), 100GbE (4x100G per port), and 50GbE operation. This flexibility allows up to 88 total 100G ports (56 native + 32 from breakout) or 128 ports at 50GbE speeds when needed.

Q: Is the DCS-7060CX5-56D8-R compatible with existing Arista EOS deployments?
A: Yes, the switch runs Arista's unified EOS operating system and integrates seamlessly with existing EOS-based fabrics. It supports VXLAN/EVPN overlays, BGP-based IP fabrics, MLAG for redundancy, and CloudVision for centralised management and automation across multi-vendor data centre environments.

Q: What optics and cables are supported?
A: The switch supports industry-standard QSFP100 and QSFP-DD optics including 100GBASE-SR4, DR1, FR1, LR4, CWDM4, and DAC/AOC for 100G ports, plus 400GBASE-SR8, DR4, FR4, LR4, CR8, and AOC for 400G ports. Full compatibility details are available on Arista's transceivers and cables page.
