FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the -F and -R model variants?
A: The -F suffix indicates front-to-rear (exhaust) airflow, while the -R variant features rear-to-front (reverse) airflow. The choice depends on your data center cooling architecture. Both models are electrically identical.

Q: What speed flexibility do the SFP-DD ports support?
A: Each 100G SFP-DD port supports flexible configuration between 100GbE, 50GbE, 25GbE, and 10GbE modes, allowing seamless migration between network speeds and optimized connectivity for next-generation server NICs.

Q: Does this switch support VXLAN and network virtualization?
A: Yes, the 7050SDX4-48D8-F supports VXLAN routing, bridging, and gateway capabilities, along with BGP EVPN for modern overlay networks. It enables seamless integration of virtualized and physical environments in multi-tenant data centers.

Q: What licensing is required for advanced features?
A: The switch requires Arista EOS Enhanced (E) license for full routing functionality (BGP, OSPF, multicast). The FLX-Lite license adds BGP EVPN for VXLAN, supporting up to 256K routes. CloudVision management is available via subscription.

Q: Is the switch suitable for AI/ML and high-performance computing workloads?
A: Yes, with 8.0 Tbps throughput, sub-microsecond latency, dynamic buffer allocation, and support for RDMA and congestion management (ECN, PFC), the switch is optimized for GPU clusters, NVMe-oF storage, and distributed computing environments.
