FAQs

Q: Does this switch require a Meraki license to operate?
A: Yes, the C9200L-48PXG-4X-M requires a Meraki license (Enterprise or Advanced tier) on a per-device, per-year basis. The switch is managed exclusively through the Meraki Dashboard and will not function without an active license. Licenses are available in 1, 3, and 5-year terms.

Q: What are multigigabit (mGig) ports and which ports support them?
A: The first 12 ports support multigigabit speeds (100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G) over standard copper cabling, ideal for high-speed Wi-Fi 6/6E access points and high-bandwidth endpoints. The remaining 36 ports support standard Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000). Category 6a cabling is recommended for reliable 2.5G/5G/10G operation.

Q: Can I stack these switches and what do I need?
A: Yes, the C9200L-48PXG-4X-M supports physical stacking of up to 5 switches with 80Gbps stacking bandwidth. However, stacking ports are not included by default. You must purchase the C9200L-STAK-KIT-M stacking kit for each switch in the stack. Each kit includes two stacking adapters and a 50cm stacking cable.

Q: What is the difference between Enterprise and Advanced licensing?
A: Enterprise licensing provides core switching features including Layer 3 routing, VLANs, QoS, and security. Advanced licensing adds Adaptive Policy (TrustSec-based micro-segmentation), NetFlow v10, and Encrypted Traffic Analytics. All switches in a co-term organization must use the same license tier.

Q: Can this switch be converted to on-premises management?
A: Yes, the C9200L-M can be migrated to on-premises management via Cisco Catalyst Center or CLI at any point during its lifecycle. The hardware runs Cisco IOS XE, providing flexibility to switch between cloud and on-prem management modes as business needs change.
