Description

The Catalyst 2960-C is a compact, fanless Layer 2 access switch for places outside the wiring closet, such as retail sales floors, classrooms and other confined spaces. It suits quiet PoE connectivity for IP phones, wireless access points, cameras, POS terminals, card readers and kiosks.

This model provides 12 Fast Ethernet 10/100 ports, all PoE-capable, drawing on a 124 W PoE budget. Two dual-purpose 1G uplinks can each be used as RJ-45 copper or SFP. Forwarding bandwidth is 10 Gbps with a 4.8 Mpps forwarding rate on 64-byte packets, backed by 64 MB flash and 128 MB DRAM. It runs the Cisco IOS LAN Base feature set, which cannot be upgraded to another feature set on the compact switches. Power comes from an internal autoranging 100-240 VAC supply, with a maximum draw of about 158 W at full PoE load.

The uplinks accept 1000BASE-SX, LX, LH, ZX and BX SFPs, CWDM SFPs and 100BASE-LX, BX and FX SFPs. Mounting options include desk, wall, magnet and under-desk.

FAQs

Q: Does this switch need a separate licence?
A: No. It runs the Cisco IOS LAN Base feature set, which is the only feature set available on this compact model and cannot be upgraded.

Q: How much PoE power does it provide?
A: It has a 124 W PoE budget shared across its 12 PoE-capable Fast Ethernet ports, with up to 15.4 W per port. Total draw at full PoE load is about 158 W.

Q: Which SFPs work in the uplink ports?
A: The dual-purpose uplinks support 1000BASE-SX, LX, LH, ZX and BX SFPs, CWDM SFPs and 100BASE-LX, BX and FX SFPs. GLC-T and GLC-GE-100FX are not supported.

Q: Can the uplinks be used as copper and SFP at the same time?
A: No. Each of the two uplinks is dual-purpose, so it can be used as either an RJ-45 copper port or an SFP port, not both simultaneously.

Q: Does it have a fan?
A: No. It is fanless with 0 dB acoustic noise, which suits classrooms, retail floors and other noise-sensitive locations.
