Description

The Catalyst IW9167E-HZ is a ruggedised Wi-Fi 6E tri-radio industrial access point built for hazardous locations such as oil and gas, mining, chemical and petrochemical plants. It also suits AGVs and AMRs, rail and mobile asset connectivity, and network extension where running fibre is not practical. This SKU is the Z regulatory domain variant with eight external N-type antenna ports.

The three radios run 4x4 MU-MIMO on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 5/6 GHz, with PHY data rates up to 7.8 Gbps. Wired connectivity comes from one 100M/1G/2.5G/5G Multigigabit Ethernet port with PoE+ and UPOE input, plus one SFP slot supporting copper 100M/1G/10G or fibre 1G/10G. A TNC port supports the built-in GNSS receiver. Power draw is 25 W on 802.3at PoE+ with 2x2 radios, or 48 W on 802.3bt UPOE or 24-48 VDC with full 4x4 operation.

The unit is rated IP66/IP67 and UL50E Type 4X, operates from -40 to +70 C, and carries Class I Div 2, Zone 2/22, ATEX, IECEx and UKEx hazardous location certifications. In Wi-Fi mode it is managed by Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers, and the same hardware can run Workgroup Bridge or Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul software images.

FAQs

Q: What licence does this access point need?
A: Wi-Fi mode uses Industrial Wireless Cisco DNA licences, IW-DNA-E (Essentials) or IW-DNA-A (Advantage). URWB mode uses the IW9167-URWB-NW licence family. Licences are ordered separately through a Cisco Smart Account.

Q: How is it powered?
A: It runs from 802.3at PoE+ at 25 W with 2x2 radios, 802.3bt UPOE at 48 W with full 4x4 operation, or 24-48 VDC. A Cisco AC-DC power adapter (IW-PWRADPT-MFIT4P=) and a power injector (IW-PWRINJ-60RGDMG=) are available as accessories.

Q: Which controllers manage it in Wi-Fi mode?
A: Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers, physical or virtual. Wi-Fi AP mode needs Cisco IOS XE 17.9.4 or later.

Q: What does the Z regulatory domain mean for this SKU?
A: The Z domain sets the permitted channels and power levels, which include 2.412-2.462 GHz and the 5 GHz bands 5.500-5.700 GHz and 5.745-5.825 GHz. 6 GHz operation is subject to regulatory approval.

Q: Can I use M12 converters with this model?
A: No. The IW9167E-HZ has permanent M25 cable ports and M12 converters are not compatible.

Q: Which SFP modules does it accept?
A: The SFP slot accepts copper modules at 100M/1G/10G and fibre modules at 1G/10G.
