FAQs

Q: What is Workgroup Bridge (WGB) mode?
A: WGB mode allows the IW9165E to associate to another access point as a client and bridge network connectivity for equipment connected via its Ethernet ports. This SKU supports both standard WGB for Cisco infrastructure and Universal WGB (uWGB) for third-party access point infrastructure.

Q: Can this access point operate in different modes?
A: Yes, the IW9165E is software-configurable and can operate in WGB, Universal WGB, URWB (Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul), or Wi-Fi AP mode. Simply update the software image to switch between modes without hardware changes.

Q: What industrial deployments is the IW9165E designed for?
A: The compact, IP30-rated design with DIN rail mounting makes the IW9165E ideal for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), onboard train deployments, industrial cabinets, cranes, and other moving assets requiring reliable wireless connectivity.

Q: Does this model support Wi-Fi 6E and the 6 GHz band?
A: Yes, the IW9165E supports Wi-Fi 6E including the 6 GHz band, subject to regulatory approval in your country. The 6 GHz support delivers higher throughput, more capacity, and reduced interference compared to traditional 2.4/5 GHz bands.

Q: What controller is required to manage this access point?
A: The IW9165E is managed via the Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller using CAPWAP protocol in Wi-Fi AP mode. In URWB and WGB modes, the device can operate in standalone configuration with local management via CLI.
