Description

The HyperFlex HX220c M5 All Flash Node is a 1RU hyperconverged compute and storage node built on 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. It suits mission-critical, high-performance workloads such as server virtualisation, VDI and databases including SQL, Oracle and SAP, and is deployed in clusters of three or more nodes with the Cisco HX Data Platform.

This SX configuration pairs one or two CPUs (8 to 28 cores each) with 24 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting up to 3 TB of memory, including Intel Optane persistent memory. Storage is all-flash: 6 to 8 SATA/SAS SSD capacity drives, one cache SSD (SAS, SATA or NVMe) and one SATA SSD for the HyperFlex system and log, all in front-accessible 2.5-inch bays behind a Cisco 12G SAS HBA. An M.2 SATA SSD handles boot. Networking includes a Cisco VIC 1387 (2 x 40G QSFP) or VIC 1457 (4 x 10/25G SFP28) mLOM, 2 x 10GBase-T LOM ports and a 1GbE management port.

Power comes from one or two hot-swap supplies (770W AC, 1050W AC or DC, or 1600W) with seven hot-swap fans for front-to-rear airflow. The node connects to Cisco UCS 6200 or 6300 Series Fabric Interconnects, or runs without a Fabric Interconnect on HyperFlex 4.5(2a) or later, and is managed through Cisco Intersight, HyperFlex Connect or the VMware vSphere plug-in.

FAQs

Q: What software licensing does the HX220c M5 All Flash Node require?
A: It requires a Cisco HyperFlex HX Data Platform software subscription, either Datacenter Advantage or Datacenter Premier. The hypervisor, VMware ESXi, is selected separately.

Q: Does it need a Fabric Interconnect?
A: No. It can connect to Cisco UCS 6200 or 6300 Series Fabric Interconnects, or run in a no-Fabric-Interconnect mode on HyperFlex 4.5(2a) or later, installed through Intersight only. Hyper-V is supported only with the Fabric Interconnect deployment.

Q: What power supply options are available?
A: One or two hot-swap supplies can be fitted: 770W AC, 1050W AC, 1050W DC or 1600W. A second supply provides 1+1 redundancy.

Q: Which Fabric Interconnects does the VIC 1387 work with?
A: The VIC 1387 natively supports UCS 6300 Series Fabric Interconnects. 10G QSAs are available for 6200 Series models, but breakout cables are not supported with the VIC 1387.

Q: How does this SKU differ from other HX220c M5 nodes?
A: This is the all-flash (SSD) SX configuration, using SSDs for both capacity and cache tiers in a 1RU chassis. Hybrid HX220c M5 nodes use a different drive mix.
