Description

The HyperFlex Edge HX220 M6 hybrid node is a 1RU hyperconverged server built for remote sites, branch offices and edge environments that need a compact cluster without Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects. It runs on one or two 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable (Ice Lake) processors and forms 2, 3 or 4 node HyperFlex Edge clusters.

This hybrid SKU provides 10 front SFF SAS/SATA drive bays, with three to eight SAS HDDs for capacity plus one SSD cache drive and one SSD system drive. Memory scales across 32 DIMM slots of DDR4 up to 3200 MHz, reaching 4 TB with 128 GB LRDIMMs. A Cisco 12G SAS HBA presents the drives in pass-through mode, and networking is delivered by 2 x 10Gbase-T LOM ports plus an mLOM slot that takes the Cisco UCS VIC 1467 quad-port 10/25G card. Two hot-swappable power supplies run in 1+1 redundancy.

This node is deployed and managed through Cisco Intersight and needs a HyperFlex Data Platform Edge software subscription. A network topology selection (10/25GE or 1GE, single or dual switch) defines the NIC configuration for the cluster.

Q: What software licensing does this node need?
A: It requires a Cisco HyperFlex Data Platform Edge subscription (Advantage or Premier, 1 to 5 years) and a Cisco Intersight licence for deployment and management. A host OS is not factory-installed.

Q: What cluster sizes does the HyperFlex Edge HX220 M6 support?
A: It supports 2, 3 or 4 node HyperFlex Edge clusters, and does not need Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects.

Q: Which power supplies can be used?
A: Two hot-swappable PSUs run in 1+1 redundancy, available as 1050 W AC, 1050 W DC, 1600 W AC or 2300 W AC. Both PSUs must be identical.

Q: What network topologies are available?
A: Topology options cover 10/25GE with a Cisco UCS VIC 1467 mLOM, 1GE single switch, 1GE dual switch with an Intel i350 quad-port NIC, and NIC connectivity mode.

Q: How does this hybrid SKU differ from an all-flash node?
A: This hybrid SKU uses SAS HDDs for capacity, with one SSD cache drive and one SSD system drive across its 10 SFF bays. NVMe and self-encrypting drives are not supported.

Q: Can I mix RDIMM and LRDIMM memory?
A: No. This node uses 3200 MHz DDR4 RDIMM or LRDIMM modules, and the two types must not be mixed.
