Description

The SM-56 is the highest-performance security module for the modular, carrier-grade Cisco Firepower 9300 chassis. It suits service providers, data centres, campuses, supercomputing centres and high-frequency trading environments that need low latency and high throughput. In service provider networks it protects carrier, content-provider and cloud infrastructure.

The SM-56 provides 56 vCores per module, above the SM-40 and SM-48 modules. Up to three modules can be installed per Firepower 9300 chassis. With three SM-56 modules, aggregate inspection throughput reaches up to 190 Gbps for NGFW use with Threat Defense software, or up to 235 Gbps stateful inspection with ASA software. Clustering 16 modules scales this to up to 0.87 Tbps (FTD) or 1 Tbps (ASA). Each module runs either ASA or Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense software and requires a software licence per module.

The module installs in the Firepower 9300 chassis alongside SM-40 and SM-48 modules, and is powered from the chassis.
