Description

This network module expands a Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 series chassis (CSF-6160 or CSF-6170) with six 1-Gbps SX multimode fibre ports. It is built for inline threat-defence and IPS deployments in data centres and at the enterprise network edge, where traffic must keep flowing over multimode fibre even if the firewall fails or loses power.

The module provides six 1-Gbps SFP SX multimode ports with built-in SFP transceivers and an optical switch for hardware bypass, also called fail-to-wire. Ports are paired 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6, so traffic in bypass mode is forwarded between each pair at the physical layer without being processed by the firewall. The module supports passive, inline and inline-with-hardware-bypass interface configurations. The front panel carries a power LED, bypass LEDs B1 to B3 and six network activity LEDs.

It fits network module slots NM-2 and NM-3 and draws power from the chassis, so no separate power supply is needed. A firmware package and software version that support the module are required. The module itself needs no licence, although the host chassis runs Secure Firewall Threat Defense or ASA software with its associated feature subscriptions.
