Description

The Secure Firewall 6100 8-port 1/10/25G SFP28 network module adds fibre or DAC connectivity to Cisco Secure Firewall 6160 and 6170 chassis. It is aimed at high-performance data centre and service provider deployments that need extra server, spine or leaf and WAN-facing ports.

The module provides eight ports, four top and four bottom, each accepting SFP, SFP+ or SFP28 transceivers, so links can migrate from 1G to 10G to 25G without changing hardware. Each chassis has two network module slots, and two of these modules add up to 16 SFP28 ports, for a chassis total of up to 28 1/10/25G ports. Ports are numbered Ethernet2/1 to 2/8 in slot 2 or Ethernet3/1 to 3/8 in slot 3. The module draws power from the chassis backplane and is fitted with a captive screw and ejector handle.

It is supported from Threat Defense 10.0 and ASA 9.24. Genuine optics supported include GLC-TE, GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-ER, SFP-25G-SR-S, SFP-10/25G-CSR-S, SFP-10/25G-LR-S, and the SFP-H10GB, SFP-H25 and AOC cable families.

FAQs

Q: Does this module need its own licence?
A: No licence is required for the module itself. The host 6100 Series firewall runs Threat Defense or ASA software and is licensed separately.

Q: Which firewalls and software releases support it?
A: It is supported in Secure Firewall 6160 and 6170 chassis, from Threat Defense 10.0 or ASA 9.24.

Q: Which optics and cables work with it?
A: Supported genuine parts include GLC-TE, GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-EX-SMD, GLC-ZX-SMD, SFP-10G-SR/-S, SFP-10G-LR/-S, SFP-10G-ER/-S, SFP-10G-T-X, SFP-H10GB-CUxM, SFP-H10GB-ACUxM, SFP-10G-AOCxM, SFP-25G-SR-S, SFP-10/25G-CSR-S, SFP-10/25G-LR-S, SFP-H25-CUxM and SFP-25G-AOCxM.

Q: Can it be hot-swapped?
A: Yes, when it is replaced with the same module type. Disable the port before removal and re-enable it afterward. Swapping to a different module type requires a chassis reboot.

Q: Does it support 50G?
A: No. The maximum speed on this module is 25G. 50G is only supported on the 12 fixed SFP56 ports on the chassis.

Q: How many can be installed in one chassis?
A: The 6160 and 6170 each have two network module slots, so up to two of these modules can be fitted, adding up to 16 SFP28 ports.
