Description

This is a 4-port 40-Gbps QSFP+ network module from the Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 Series. It installs in the network module slots of the Secure Firewall 6160 and 6170 chassis and adds high-speed 40GbE connectivity for data centre, campus-edge and high-throughput perimeter deployments.

The module provides four full-duplex 40-Gbps QSFP/QSFP+ ports. Each 40G port can be split into four 10G ports using supported breakout cables, giving up to 16 x 10G interfaces per module. Port numbering follows the slot, Ethernet 2/1 to 2/4 in slot 2 or 3/1 to 3/4 in slot 3, and breakout ports are numbered with a third index such as 2/1/1 to 2/4/4. The front panel carries a captive screw, an ejector handle, network activity LEDs and a power-on LED.

The module is powered by the host chassis and needs no licence of its own, as licensing follows the Secure Firewall 6100 chassis and its Threat Defense or ASA software. It requires a supported firmware package and software version, and it can be mixed with other Secure Firewall 6100 network modules in the same chassis.

FAQs

Q: Which chassis does this module fit?
A: It installs in the network module slots of the Cisco Secure Firewall 6160 and 6170. Both chassis are 2 RU and have two network module slots.

Q: Does it need its own licence?
A: No. The module itself needs no licence. Licensing follows the Secure Firewall 6100 chassis and its Threat Defense or ASA software subscriptions.

Q: Can the 40G ports be used as 10G ports?
A: Yes. Each 40-Gbps port can be split into four 10-Gbps ports using supported breakout cables, giving up to 16 x 10G interfaces per module.

Q: What software does it need?
A: The chassis must run a supported firmware package and a Secure Firewall Threat Defense or Secure ASA software version that supports this module. Check the Cisco compatibility guides for the exact versions.

Q: How is power supplied to the module?
A: The module draws power from the host Secure Firewall 6100 chassis and its power supply modules. It has no separate power connection.

Q: What is the procedure when replacing the module?
A: Disable the module before removal. Replacing it with the same product ID only requires re-enabling it, while fitting a different product ID requires a chassis reboot.
