Description

This is a 7.2TB self-encrypting NVMe SSD module for the Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 series. It is the same capacity drive fitted to the Secure Firewall 6170, which makes it a direct replacement or spare for that chassis. It suits data-centre, large-enterprise and service-provider firewall deployments where on-box storage needs to be protected and kept available.

The module is a 7.2TB NVMe drive with self-encrypting (SED) capability for data-at-rest protection. The 6100 chassis has two SSD slots, SSD-1 and SSD-2, and each holds one NVMe SSD. In the Secure Firewall 6170 the two drives run as a software RAID1 mirror, and the drive can be hot-swapped once the raid remove-secure local-disk command has been run. The module draws power from the chassis and needs no licence of its own.

It is intended for the Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 series, which runs Secure Firewall Threat Defense or Secure ASA software. The 6160 ships with 3.6TB drives, so check capacity mixing before using this module as a storage upgrade in that model.

FAQs

Q: Which firewall does this SSD module suit?
A: It is the SSD module for the Cisco Secure Firewall 6170, which ships with two 7.2TB SSDs. It fits the SSD slots of the Secure Firewall 6100 series chassis.

Q: Does it need a licence?
A: No licence is needed for the SSD module itself. The host chassis runs Secure Firewall Threat Defense or Secure ASA software, which have their own licensing.

Q: Can it be replaced while the firewall is running?
A: Yes, it is hot-swappable. Run the raid remove-secure local-disk command for the slot first, then raid add local-disk after fitting the replacement.

Q: Does it need its own power supply?
A: No. The module draws power from the Secure Firewall 6100 chassis.

Q: Can it be used in a Secure Firewall 6160?
A: The 6160 ships with 3.6TB SSDs under a different part number. This 7.2TB module is the 6170 drive, so confirm that mixing capacities is supported before using it in a 6160.
