FAQs

Q: Does this switch require a license to operate?
A: Yes, the MS390-48-HW requires an active Meraki Enterprise or Advanced license subscription to operate. Licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10-year terms and are purchased separately from the hardware. The switch is cloud-managed through the Meraki Dashboard with the appropriate license.

Q: What uplink module options are available for this switch?
A: The MS390-48-HW features modular uplink slots that support either 4x 10GbE SFP+ or 2x 40GbE QSFP+ uplink modules. These hot-swappable modules are sold separately and allow flexible high-speed connectivity to aggregation or core layers.

Q: Can this switch be stacked, and what is the maximum stack size?
A: Yes, the MS390-48-HW supports both physical and virtual stacking. Physical stacking allows up to 8 switches with 480 Gbps of stacking bandwidth via dedicated 120G hardware stack ports. Virtual stacking supports thousands of ports across multiple sites for unified management and configuration through the Meraki Dashboard.

Q: What Layer 3 routing features does this switch support?
A: The MS390-48-HW supports comprehensive Layer 3 routing including static routing, OSPF dynamic routing, DHCP server and relay, VRRP warm spare, and inter-VLAN routing. It also includes advanced features like Adaptive Policy for traffic segmentation using security groups, and Layer 7 application visibility for QoS and traffic shaping.

Q: Is this switch suitable for deploying Wi-Fi 6 access points?
A: Yes, the MS390-48-HW is well-suited for deploying high-speed 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 access points. While this model does not include PoE, it provides high-bandwidth Gigabit connectivity and modular 10G/40G uplinks to handle the increased throughput demands of modern wireless infrastructure in enterprise campus environments.
