FAQs

Q: What is the difference between Enterprise and Advanced licensing for the MS390-24UX-HW?
A: The MS390 offers two license tiers: Enterprise and Advanced. Advanced licensing adds Adaptive Policy for security group-based segmentation and support for over 1,000 OSPF routes. Licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10-year terms and must be purchased separately from the hardware.

Q: Can the MS390-24UX-HW power Wi-Fi 6 access points?
A: Yes, the MS390-24UX-HW provides 60W UPoE (802.3bt Type 3) per port with a 560W base PoE budget, making it ideal for high-power 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 access points. With an optional secondary power supply, the PoE budget increases to 1440W.

Q: What uplink module options are compatible with the MS390-24UX-HW?
A: The switch features one modular uplink slot supporting several options: MA-MOD-4X10G (4x 10GbE SFP+), MA-MOD-8X10G (8x 10GbE SFP+), or MA-MOD-2X40G (2x 40GbE QSFP+). Note that MA-MOD-4X10G reached end-of-sale in November 2021. Modules are sold separately.

Q: How many MS390-24UX-HW switches can be stacked together?
A: You can physically stack up to 8 MS390-24UX-HW switches using 120G stacking cables, providing 480 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. Virtual stacking supports thousands of switch ports for unified cloud-based management across multiple sites.

Q: What cabling is recommended for multigigabit operation on the MS390-24UX-HW?
A: While Cat5e can support 2.5G and 5G speeds, Cisco recommends Cat6a cabling for reliable multigigabit operation at 10 Gbps. Cat6a provides superior alien crosstalk mitigation and reliability, especially in longer cable runs or bundled installations.
