FAQs

Q: What licensing is required for the MS390-24P-HW?
A: The MS390-24P-HW requires a Meraki MS390 24-port Enterprise or Advanced license for operation. Licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10-year terms. The Enterprise license tier is included with this hardware model and supports standard Layer 3 features. Advanced licensing is required for Adaptive Policy and more than 1,000 OSPF routes.

Q: What modular uplink options are available?
A: The MS390-24P-HW has one expansion module slot that supports three uplink options: MA-MOD-4X10G (4x 10GbE SFP+), MA-MOD-8X10G (8x 10GbE SFP+), or MA-MOD-2X40G (2x 40GbE QSFP+). All uplink modules are hot-swappable and sold separately.

Q: How much PoE power is available for connected devices?
A: The MS390-24P-HW provides 445W of PoE with the included MA-PWR-715WAC primary power supply. Adding an optional secondary power supply (MA-PWR-1100WAC) increases total PoE budget to 720W. Each port supports PoE+ (802.3at) with up to 30W per port.

Q: Can the MS390-24P-HW be stacked with other Meraki switches?
A: Yes, the MS390-24P-HW features two dedicated 120G hardware stacking ports for physical stacking of up to 8 units with 480 Gbps stacking bandwidth. It also supports virtual stacking through the Meraki Dashboard for unified management of thousands of switch ports across multiple sites. Physical stacking provides fast convergence (less than 1 second) and StackPower capabilities.

Q: What is Adaptive Policy and do I need it?
A: Adaptive Policy is a software feature that provides scalable security by segmenting traffic into Security Groups using intent-based policies. It simplifies network segmentation compared to traditional IP-based ACLs. Adaptive Policy requires the Advanced license tier and is ideal for enterprises needing granular, scalable security across users, devices, and applications.
