Built on Cisco StackWise-160 technology supporting up to 9 switches, this 1U switch provides converged wired-wireless infrastructure with integrated wireless controller capability for up to 50 access points. With LAN Base licensing, it delivers comprehensive Layer 2 switching with up to 255 VLANs, static routing, QoS, and security features for campus access deployments.

Q: What is the difference between LAN Base and IP Base licensing?
A: LAN Base provides Layer 2+ features with up to 255 VLANs and static routing only. IP Base adds full Layer 3 routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP stub, RIP), wireless controller functionality, and supports up to 4094 VLANs. You can upgrade the license via RTU (Right to Use) process at any time.

Q: Can this switch be stacked with other Catalyst 3650 models?
A: Yes, the WS-C3650-48PD-L can stack with other Catalyst 3650 Series switches running the same LAN Base license level. Mixed stacking of different license levels (LAN Base with IP Base or IP Services) is not supported. You can stack up to 9 switches using optional StackWise-160 stacking modules.

Q: How many access points can this switch support as a wireless controller?
A: With LAN Base licensing, wireless controller functionality is not available. To support up to 50 access points and 1000 wireless clients per switch or stack, you need to upgrade to IP Base licensing. Additional access point licenses are required for mobility controller role.

Q: What uplink options are available on this model?
A: The WS-C3650-48PD-L has fixed uplinks providing either 2x 10G SFP+ ports OR 4x 1G SFP ports. The SFP+ interfaces are backward compatible and can accept both 10G and 1G SFP modules. You cannot mix both configurations simultaneously.
