FAQs

Q: What is the difference between UPOE/FPoE and standard PoE+?
A: UPOE (Universal PoE) and FPoE (Full PoE) deliver up to 60W per port, double the 30W provided by standard PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at). This enables the switch to power high-demand devices such as telepresence systems, compact switches, VDI clients, and advanced wireless access points that require more than 30W.

Q: How many access points can this switch manage?
A: The WS-C3650-48FWQ-S includes an integrated wireless controller with 5 AP licenses and can manage up to 50 access points and 1000 wireless clients per switch (or stack). Additional AP licenses can be purchased separately if more wireless coverage is required.

Q: Can this switch be stacked with other Catalyst 3650 models?
A: Yes, the switch supports Cisco StackWise-160 technology and can be stacked with other Catalyst 3650 series switches (up to 9 units) for a total stack bandwidth of 160 Gbps. Stacking requires optional stack modules and cables sold separately.

Q: What is the IP Base feature set and can it be upgraded?
A: IP Base provides Layer 2 switching, basic Layer 3 static routing, RIP, and EIGRP stub routing. It can be upgraded to IP Services via a software license (RTU) to enable advanced routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and full EIGRP, as well as enhanced security and QoS features.

Q: Does this switch support redundant power supplies?
A: Yes, the switch supports dual modular, hot-swappable redundant power supplies for high availability. It ships with one power supply by default, and a second can be added for N+1 redundancy. Both fans and power supplies are field-replaceable.
