FAQs

Q: What is the difference between LAN Base and IP Base licenses?
A: The LAN Base license provides comprehensive Layer 2 switching features with support for up to 255 VLANs. IP Base adds Layer 3 routing capabilities including static routing, OSPF, and wireless controller functionality, with support for 4094 VLANs. Layer 3 EtherChannels are not supported on LAN Base.

Q: Can this switch be stacked with other Catalyst models?
A: The WS-C3650-48FQ-L can only stack with other Catalyst 3650 Series switches running the same LAN Base license. It cannot stack with Catalyst 3850 switches or with 3650 switches running different license levels (IP Base or IP Services). StackWise-160 modules are required and sold separately.

Q: What is the actual PoE budget available for devices?
A: The switch comes with a 1025W AC power supply and provides up to 775W of PoE power budget across the 48 ports. Each port supports full IEEE 802.3at PoE+ with up to 30W per port, allowing you to power IP phones, wireless access points, and surveillance cameras.

Q: Does this switch support wireless controller functionality?
A: No, the LAN Base license does not support wireless controller (mobility controller or mobility agent) functionality. You would need to upgrade to IP Base or IP Services license to enable integrated wireless LAN controller capabilities on this hardware.

Q: What uplink transceivers are compatible with the 10G SFP+ ports?
A: The four 10G SFP+ uplink ports support standard Cisco 10G transceivers including SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-LRM for fiber connections, and 10GBASE-T copper modules. SFP+ DAC (Direct Attach Copper) cables are also supported for short-distance switch-to-switch connections.
