Description

The UCS XE9305 is a 3 RU, short-depth, multi-mountable modular edge chassis from Cisco's Unified Edge platform. It provides five front-facing half-width node slots for compute nodes and future networking modules, making it suited to retail, branch and remote-site deployments that need compute, storage, networking and security in a compact, quiet platform. It is managed at scale through Cisco Intersight.

This UCSXE-9305-CHS-U variant is the base chassis with a non-NFC left slam latch and five 80 mm hot-swappable dual-rotor fan modules. The chassis measures 17.32 in wide by 5.12 in high and 18 in deep, rising to 23 in with a security bezel or air filter. It has two power supply bays for 2400 W Titanium AC PSUs with N+N grid redundancy, and two bays for hot-swappable Edge Chassis Management Controllers (eCMC). Each eCMC provides an embedded 25 Gbps switch with 145 Gbps of switching bandwidth, 2 x 10 Gbps SFP+ uplinks, a 1 Gbps RJ-45 management port and 2 x USB-C ports. The eCMCs, PSUs, bezel, air filter, mounting accessories and cables are ordered separately.

The chassis accepts UCS XE130c M8 and XE150c M8 compute nodes, as well as C8255-G2-UCSXE Secure Router Nodes. It requires two UCSXE-ECMC-G1 eCMCs per chassis. No licence is needed for the chassis itself, but Cisco Intersight is required for management.

Q: Does this chassis need a licence?
A: No licence is required for the chassis itself. Cisco Intersight is required for management. Intersight Server licences apply to the compute nodes, while a chassis populated only with C8255-G2-UCSXE Secure Router Nodes needs no Intersight licence.

Q: What power supplies does it use?
A: It has two bays for 2400 W Titanium AC PSUs (2400 W at 200-240 VAC, reduced output at 100-127 VAC) or 2400 W DC PSUs (-48 to -72 V DC). They provide N+N grid redundancy and an IEC C20 inlet. Use the Cisco UCS Power Calculator to size your configuration.

Q: Which nodes and controllers does the chassis work with?
A: It accepts UCS XE130c M8 (12, 20 or 32-core) and XE150c M8 (20 or 32-core) compute nodes, plus C8255-G2-UCSXE Secure Router Nodes. It requires two UCSXE-ECMC-G1 eCMCs per chassis, with an optional 75 GB M.2 extended image cache.

Q: How does this SKU differ from the NFC variant?
A: UCSXE-9305-CHS-U uses the non-NFC left slam latch, so it cannot be claimed through the Intersight mobile app by NFC tap. It includes the five fan modules, while the eCMCs, bezel, air filter, mounting accessories, PSUs and cables are ordered separately.

Q: What mounting options are available?
A: The chassis is multi-mountable, with a sliding rail kit for 4-post racks, a static kit for 2-post racks, and wall and shelf brackets. Mounting hardware is ordered separately.
