Description

The UCS XE130c M8 is a 1 RU, half-width, single-socket compute node for the Cisco UCS XE9305 chassis, part of the Cisco Unified Edge range. It is built for edge deployments such as retail, branch and remote sites, running virtualisation, containers, bare-metal workloads and AI/ML inference in locations where short depth and an extended temperature range matter.

This -U SKU is the 20-core base node ordered standalone. It uses an Intel Xeon 6 SoC with P-cores (20 cores at 2.0 GHz, 130 W) with four memory channels and 8 DDR5 RDIMM slots supporting up to 768 GB. Networking is handled by two 25 Gbps rear ports connecting to the chassis Chassis Management Controllers, plus two 10 Gbps RJ-45 front host ports. Storage options include up to four E3.S NVMe bays in the Storage-Optimized configuration or three in the IO-Optimized configuration, and up to two M.2 SSDs with hardware RAID 1. A PCIe Gen5 slot accepts a 75 W half-height, half-length GPU such as the NVIDIA L4. The node is managed through Cisco Intersight, and standalone nodes require an AI Intent PID (COMPUTE-AI or COMPUTE-OTHER) when ordering.

The node mounts in the Cisco UCS XE9305 Chassis, which holds up to five nodes and supplies power to them. A functional node needs memory, risers and any drives, GPU or adapters to be selected separately.

FAQs

Q: What licensing does this node need?
A: It is managed in Cisco Intersight Managed Mode, with a minimum Essentials licence per server. As a standalone (-U) node, an AI Intent PID (COMPUTE-AI or COMPUTE-OTHER) must be selected when ordering.

Q: How is the node powered?
A: It is powered from the UCS XE9305 chassis power supplies and has no separate PSU. The power cap is 1300 W for all configurations, the CPU is rated at 130 W, and ambient temperature must stay below 35 C.

Q: What else is needed to make this -U node functional?
A: The node needs DDR5 RDIMM memory and risers, such as a storage riser (UCSXE-1U-E3S-1L) with an IO riser (UCSXE-1U-PCI-L). E3.S NVMe drives, M.2 SSDs, a GPU, a PCIe adapter and a TPM are optional.

Q: Which chassis does it fit in?
A: It mounts in the Cisco UCS XE9305 Chassis, which holds up to five XE130c M8 nodes.

Q: Can it take a GPU?
A: Yes. A dedicated PCIe Gen5 slot accepts a 75 W half-height, half-length GPU such as the NVIDIA L4.

Q: How is the 20-core variant different from other XE130c M8 nodes?
A: This SKU is the 20-core Intel Xeon 6 option (6513P-B, 2.0 GHz, 130 W) ordered standalone. Other variants offer 12 or 32 physical cores.
