Description

The UCS XE130c M8 is a 1 RU, half-width edge compute node for the Cisco Unified Edge platform, built on a single Intel Xeon 6 SoC with P-cores. It suits retail, branch and remote sites running bare-metal servers, virtualisation, containers and AI/ML inference, with zero-touch deployment and SaaS-managed operations at scale.

This SKU is the 32-core version with the standalone -U suffix, ordered without storage or memory. The processor runs at 2.0 GHz, with 8 DIMM slots across 4 memory channels for DDR5-6400 RDIMMs up to 768 GB. Connectivity is two 25 Gbps rear ports to the chassis mid-plane plus two 10 Gbps RJ-45 front host ports. Storage options include a mini module with two M.2 SSDs in hardware RAID 1, and four E3.S NVMe drives in the Storage-Optimized configuration or three in the IO-Optimized configuration. A dedicated PCIe Gen5 slot takes a 75 W half-height, half-length GPU such as the NVIDIA L4, while IO-Optimized builds add a PCIe Gen5 adapter slot.

The node installs in the Cisco UCS XE9305 3 RU chassis, up to five per chassis, and draws power from the chassis rather than its own PSU. Management is through Cisco Intersight, and no operating system or hypervisor is included.

FAQs

Q: What does the -U suffix mean on this SKU?
A: The -U suffix means the node is ordered standalone rather than as a chassis option. This SKU is the 32-core version, supplied without storage or memory.

Q: Which chassis does this compute node install in?
A: It installs in the Cisco UCS XE9305 3 RU chassis, which holds up to five nodes. The node has no PSU of its own and is powered from the chassis.

Q: What memory does the node use?
A: It has 8 DIMM slots across 4 memory channels and uses DDR5-6400 RDIMMs in 16, 32, 48, 64 or 96 GB sizes, up to 768 GB in total.

Q: Can it take a GPU for AI inference?
A: Yes. A dedicated PCIe Gen5 slot supports a 75 W half-height, half-length GPU such as the NVIDIA L4.

Q: How is the node managed and does it need a licence?
A: It is managed through Cisco Intersight, which requires an Intersight licence tier. No operating system or hypervisor is included.
