FAQs

Q: What license is required for the C9500X-28C8D-E?
A: This SKU includes Cisco DNA Essentials licensing. A mandatory 3, 5, or 7-year Cisco DNA Essentials subscription is required for operation and must be ordered separately.

Q: Can the QSFP28 ports support lower speeds like 40G?
A: Yes, the 28 QSFP28 ports support both 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit Ethernet. The 8 QSFP-DD ports are multi-rate and support 40G, 100G, 200G, and 400G.

Q: Does this switch support breakout cables?
A: Yes, breakout cables are supported on all 8 QSFP-DD ports and on the odd-numbered QSFP28 ports (ports 1, 3, 5, etc.), enabling flexible port density configurations.

Q: What is the purpose of the 8GB High Bandwidth Memory?
A: The 8GB HBM buffer provides on-demand deep buffering to handle speed mismatches between ingress and egress ports, micro-burst traffic, and supports large-scale routing tables and ACLs for demanding enterprise and edge deployments.

Q: Is StackWise Virtual supported on the C9500X-28C8D?
A: Yes, the Catalyst 9500X supports StackWise Virtual technology, enabling network virtualization, high availability features such as ISSU, NSF/SSO, and redundant operations across paired switches.
