FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the C9500-32C-A and C9500-32C-E?
A: The C9500-32C-A includes the Network Advantage license, which enables advanced routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS), VRF segmentation, Layer 3 VPNs, and SD-Access capabilities. The C9500-32C-E has the Network Essentials license with basic Layer 3 routing only. Both models have identical hardware with 32 x 100G QSFP28 ports.

Q: Does this switch support StackWise Virtual?
A: Yes, the C9500-32C-A supports Cisco StackWise Virtual technology, which allows two physical switches to operate as a single logical switch for simplified management, redundancy, and high availability with features like NSF/SSO and in-service software upgrades.

Q: Can the 100G QSFP28 ports be used for lower-speed connections?
A: Yes, the QSFP28 ports support flexible port breakout capabilities, allowing each 100G port to be broken out into multiple 10G or 25G connections using appropriate breakout cables and optics. This enables smooth migration and scalable deployment options.

Q: What deployment scenarios is the C9500-32C-A designed for?
A: The C9500-32C-A is ideal for enterprise campus cores, data center aggregation layers, high-density distribution switches, carrier/metro MPLS environments, and network backbones requiring deterministic 100G performance, Layer 3 segmentation, and nonstop availability.

Q: Does this switch require a DNA license for operation?
A: The C9500-32C-A includes the perpetual Network Advantage software license built into the SKU. Cisco DNA licensing (for advanced automation, analytics, and assurance via DNA Center) is optional and sold separately as subscription-based term licenses if those capabilities are required.
