FAQs

Q: What uplink modules are compatible with the C9500-16X-E?
A: The C9500-16X-E supports two optional network modules: C9500-NM-8X (8x 1/10G SFP+) or C9500-NM-2Q (2x 40G QSFP+). These provide flexible high-speed uplink connectivity for aggregation and core deployments. The switch ships without a module by default and requires either a network module or a blank module installed for proper operation.

Q: Does the C9500-16X-E support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?
A: No, the C9500-16X-E does not support Power over Ethernet. This switch is designed for high-speed 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink and aggregation applications where PoE is not required. For PoE support, consider Cisco's access-layer switches such as the Catalyst 9300 or 9400 series.

Q: What is the difference between Network Essentials and Network Advantage licenses?
A: The C9500-16X-E ships with the Network Essentials license, which includes core Layer 2/3 features, SD-Access, and basic routing. Network Advantage adds advanced capabilities such as full MPLS support, advanced segmentation, and enhanced security features. Licenses can be upgraded after purchase via software licensing.

Q: Can the C9500-16X-E be stacked with other switches?
A: Yes, the C9500-16X-E supports StackWise Virtual technology, which enables two switches to operate as a single logical unit without dedicated stacking cables. This provides up to 160 Gbps of virtual stack bandwidth, nonstop operation, and simplified management. Traditional stacking cables are not required or supported on this model.

Q: What are the typical use cases for the C9500-16X-E?
A: The C9500-16X-E is ideal for enterprise campus core and aggregation layers, data center network aggregation, high-performance distribution, and branch campus cores. It is optimized for 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, supporting SD-Access, MPLS VPNs, advanced multicast, and secure segmentation for modern IoT and cloud-integrated networks.
