FAQs

Q: What is the difference between Network Essentials and Network Advantage licensing?
A: Network Essentials provides Layer 3 routing, basic SD-Access, API automation, and essential security features. Network Advantage adds advanced Layer 3 protocols like BGP, OSPF, full SD-Access capabilities, advanced QoS, and network analytics. Both licenses are term-based subscriptions available in 3, 5, or 7 year options.

Q: Can I add more PoE power beyond the 645W default budget?
A: Yes, the C9300-48UN-E has dual power supply slots. Adding a secondary PSU increases the PoE budget: 995W with 350W secondary, 1360W with 715W secondary, or 1745W with a second 1100W PSU. This allows powering high-density UPOE devices like Wi-Fi 6 APs, PTZ cameras, and advanced endpoints.

Q: What uplink modules are compatible with this switch?
A: The C9300-48UN-E supports Catalyst 9300 and Catalyst 3850 network modules including C9300-NM-4G (4x 1G SFP), C9300-NM-8X (8x 10G SFP+), C9300-NM-2Q (2x 40G QSFP+), C9300-NM-4M (4x mGig), and C9300X modules for 25G/100G uplinks. The network module is sold separately.

Q: Can this switch stack with other Catalyst 9300 models?
A: Yes, the C9300-48UN-E can stack with other Catalyst 9300 and 9300X modular uplink models using StackWise-480 cables at 480 Gbps bandwidth. Up to 8 switches can form a single logical unit. It cannot stack with fixed uplink C9300L models or Catalyst 3850/3650 series switches.

Q: What makes the multigigabit ports ideal for Wi-Fi 6 deployments?
A: The 48x multigigabit ports auto-negotiate between 100M, 1G, 2.5G, and 5G speeds over standard Cat5e/Cat6 cabling. This provides the bandwidth needed for high-density Wi-Fi 6 and 6E access points without requiring expensive cable upgrades, while UPOE delivers up to 60W per port for power-hungry enterprise APs.
