FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the 8 multigigabit ports and the 40 standard ports?
A: The 8 multigigabit (mGig) ports support auto-negotiation at 100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10GBASE-T speeds, ideal for connecting Wi-Fi 6/6E access points that require higher bandwidth. The remaining 40 ports are standard 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. All 48 ports support PoE+ (802.3at) up to 30W per port.

Q: Can this switch be stacked with other Catalyst 9200 models?
A: Yes, the C9200L-48PXG-2Y-E supports StackWise-80 and StackWise-160 stacking up to 8 switches for a total of 384 access ports. However, C9200L fixed models cannot be stacked with C9200 modular models or C9200CX compact models. Only C9200L switches can stack together.

Q: What PoE budget is available with this switch?
A: The switch ships with a single PWR-C5-1KWAC power supply providing 740W for PoE+. An optional second PWR-C5-1KWAC power supply can be added to increase the PoE budget to 1440W, providing both redundancy and additional power capacity for high-density PoE deployments.

Q: What capabilities does Network Essentials licensing provide?
A: Network Essentials includes comprehensive Layer 2 switching features, essential Layer 3 routing (static routing, RIP), security features including MACsec and TrustSec, QoS, network segmentation, basic automation via APIs, and management through Cisco DNA Center. It is suitable for most enterprise access layer deployments.

Q: Are the uplinks compatible with lower-speed SFP modules?
A: Yes, the 2x SFP28 uplinks are backward compatible and support 1G SFP, 10G SFP+, and 25G SFP28 modules, providing flexible connectivity options to match your network infrastructure.
