Description

The Arista 7020R is a 1RU data centre switch built for server-edge 1GbE leaf roles in leaf-spine designs, as well as high-performance storage networks and 1G/10G cloud, virtualised and media deployments. This model runs Arista EOS and features a deep 3GB packet buffer with Virtual Output Queues per port to avoid head-of-line blocking.

It provides 48 x 100/1000Mb RJ-45 ports and 6 x 1/10GbE SFP+ uplinks, with 216 Gbps of throughput and 162 Mpps forwarding. The 48x RJ45, 6x SFP+, 2x AC configuration uses rear-to-front (reverse) airflow, with four hot-swappable N+1 fans and two hot-swap 1+1 redundant AC power supplies. Typical draw is 105 W and maximum draw is 115 W.

The SFP+ ports accept 10GBASE-CR DAC cables, AOC, and SR, LR, ER, ZR and DWDM optics, as well as 1GbE SX/LX and 100/1000BASE-T SFPs. EOS 4.18.3 or later is required, and the switch can be managed with CloudVision.

Q: Does this switch need a licence to run?
A: It runs Arista EOS, and the default image provides a broad Layer 2 feature set with monitoring, provisioning, security, QoS and management. Optional EOS licences add features such as Enhanced L3 (OSPF, BGP, ISIS, PIM) with LIC-FIX-G-E, and FLX-Lite or FLX routing scale with EVPN and VXLAN.

Q: What power supplies does it use?
A: It uses two hot-swap PWR-500AC supplies in a 1+1 redundant arrangement, rated 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz with an IEC C13 inlet. Typical draw is 105 W and maximum is 115 W.

Q: Which optics and cables work in the SFP+ ports?
A: The 6 SFP+ ports accept 10GBASE-CR DAC (0.5-5m), AOC (3-30m), and SRL, SR, LRL, LR, ER, ZR and DWDM optics. They also take 1GbE SX/LX and 100/1000BASE-T SFPs.

Q: What does rear-to-front airflow mean for this SKU?
A: The fans (FAN-7000-F/R) draw cool air in from the rear port side and exhaust at the front. This suits racks where the switch ports face the hot aisle.
