Description

The Catalyst 9166I is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E indoor access point with integrated omnidirectional antennas, built for high-density enterprise networks that need the 6 GHz band. The -ROW suffix on this SKU is the Rest of World regulatory domain. It can be run on-premises through Catalyst 9800 controllers or switched to Meraki cloud management.

Three 4x4 MU-MIMO radios cover 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz, with a 5 GHz XOR radio that shifts capacity between 6 GHz and a secondary 5 GHz radio. PHY data rate reaches up to 7.78 Gbps. Uplink is a single 100M/1000M/2.5G/5G Multigigabit Ethernet RJ-45 port, and there is also a USB 2.0 port (4.5 W) and an RJ-45 console port. It is powered by 802.3bt (UPOE), 802.3at (PoE+) or a 54V DC input, and carries 2048 MB DRAM and 1024 MB flash. Built-in environmental sensors and a Bluetooth 5.1 radio support IoT and location use cases.

The access point needs Cisco IOS XE 17.9.1 or later and a Cisco wireless subscription. It works with Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers, physical or virtual, and with Catalyst 9000 switches running Embedded Wireless Controller in SD-Access mode.

A: Yes. It needs a Cisco wireless subscription, available through the Cisco Networking Subscription as Cisco Wireless Essentials or Advantage, or through Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage licensing.

Q: How can I power the CW9166I-ROW?
A: It runs from 802.3bt (UPOE), 802.3at (PoE+) or a 54V DC input. 802.3af is only suitable for configuration staging with all radios off. Maximum draw is 30.5 W on 802.3bt and 25.5 W on 802.3at.
