Description

The Cisco Wireless 9174E is an indoor Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) tri-band access point with external DART8 antenna connectors. It suits high-ceiling warehouses, cold storage, clean rooms and other challenging RF spaces such as metal racking and narrow aisles, where omnidirectional or directional external antennas are needed. It is also aimed at high-density enterprise areas and AR/VR, video and other low-latency applications. This -CFG configurable SKU is the external antenna model, so antennas are selected separately.

It runs 2.4 GHz at 2x2:2 and 5 GHz and 6 GHz at 4x4:4, with PHY data rates up to approximately 17.5 Gbps in tri-band mode and channel widths up to 320 MHz on 6 GHz. Flexible Radio Assignment also allows 4x4 operation on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. A dedicated 2.4 GHz IoT radio and a dedicated tri-band scanning radio are built in, along with Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3. The uplink is a single 100M/1G/2.5G/5G Multigigabit Ethernet port with PoE-in. It requires a Cisco Wireless Essentials or Advantage subscription.

Compatible external antennas include the CW-ANT-T-O2-D8 omnidirectional and CW-ANT-T-D2-D8 directional models, plus the CW-ANT-T-O4-R dipole. It is managed by Catalyst and Cisco Wireless 9800 Series controllers, a Catalyst 9000 Embedded Wireless Controller in SD-Access mode, or the Meraki cloud.

FAQs

Q: Does the CW9174E need a licence or subscription?
A: Yes. It requires a Cisco Networking Subscription, either Cisco Wireless Essentials or Cisco Wireless Advantage.

Q: Which external antennas work with it?
A: The CW-ANT-T-O2-D8 omnidirectional and CW-ANT-T-D2-D8 directional antennas use the DART8 connector directly. The CW-ANT-T-O4-R dipole connects with an AIR-CAB002-D8-R= or CW-CAB-001-D8-R4 cable. Several existing Cisco antennas are also supported, with adapters where needed.

Q: How should it be powered?
A: For full 10-stream operation use 802.3bt Class 5 (UPOE) or the MA-PWR-50WAC 54V DC adapter. 802.3at PoE+ runs it in reduced mode on a 2.5G link, and 802.3af supports 1x1 operation only.

Q: Which controllers or platforms manage it?
A: Catalyst and Cisco Wireless 9800 Series controllers (physical or virtual), a Catalyst 9000 Embedded Wireless Controller in SD-Access mode, or the Meraki cloud. It needs IOS XE 17.18.2 or later, or Meraki MR32.1.5 or later.

Q: How does the CW9174E differ from the CW9174I?
A: The CW9174E uses external DART8 antenna connectors so you choose omnidirectional or directional antennas for the space. The CW9174I is the indoor model with an omnidirectional antenna.
