Description

The Cisco Wireless 9174I (CW9174I) is an indoor Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) tri-band access point with internal omnidirectional antennas, built for high-density enterprise environments and latency-sensitive applications such as AR/VR, video streaming and collaboration. It is a global-use model and can run on-premises with Catalyst 9800 controllers or be cloud-managed through Meraki.

The radios support 10 spatial streams in total: 2x2:2 on 2.4 GHz, 4x4:4 on 5 GHz and 4x4:4 on 6 GHz, with channel widths up to 320 MHz in the 6 GHz band and PHY data rates up to approximately 17.5 Gbps. The AP can also operate in a dual-band mode with 4x4:4 on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. A single 100M/1G/2.5G/5G multigigabit RJ-45 port provides the uplink. It also includes a dedicated IoT radio (BLE 5.3 and 802.15.4), a dedicated tri-band scanning radio, a USB 2.0 port rated at 9W and a console port. Full tri-band operation with the 5G link draws up to 37W at the powered device from 802.3bt Class 5 (UPOE) or the 54V DC jack.

It works with Catalyst and Cisco Wireless 9800 Series controllers (physical or virtual), Catalyst 9000 switches running Embedded Wireless Controller in SD-Access mode, Catalyst Center, Cisco Spaces and ISE. On-premises operation requires Cisco IOS XE 17.18.2 or later, and Meraki cloud operation requires MR32.1.5 or later. A Cisco Wireless Essentials or Advantage subscription licence is required to operate the AP and is purchased separately.

FAQs

Q: Does the CW9174I need a licence?
A: Yes. It requires a Cisco Networking Subscription, either Cisco Wireless Essentials or Cisco Wireless Advantage, to operate. The licence is purchased separately from the access point.

Q: What PoE does the CW9174I need?
A: For full tri-band operation with the 5G link it needs 802.3bt Class 5 (UPOE) or the 54V DC jack with the MA-PWR-50WAC adapter, drawing up to 37W at the powered device. On 802.3at (PoE+) it runs with a 2.5G link and USB disabled at up to 25.5W. 802.3af supports only a reduced 1x1 2.4 GHz mode.

Q: Which controllers and platforms does it work with?
A: It works with Catalyst and Cisco Wireless 9800 Series controllers (physical or virtual) and with Catalyst 9000 switches running Embedded Wireless Controller in SD-Access mode. It also supports Catalyst Center, Cisco Spaces and ISE. On-premises operation needs Cisco IOS XE 17.18.2 or later.

Q: Can it be managed from the Meraki cloud?
A: Yes. The Global Use model can run in Meraki cloud-managed mode with software MR32.1.5 or later, or in on-premises mode with a Catalyst 9800 controller.

Q: How does the CW9174I differ from the CW9174E?
A: The CW9174I has internal omnidirectional antennas. The CW9174E is the sibling model with external antenna connectors.
