Description

The Catalyst 9162I is an enterprise indoor Wi-Fi 6E access point from the Catalyst 9162 series, built for hybrid work environments and IoT use cases such as location tracking and wayfinding. It runs three 2x2 client-serving radios across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, with the 6 GHz band giving more capacity and less interference.

The CW9162I-Z is the Reg Z regulatory domain variant. It provides up to 3.9 Gbps tri-radio aggregate frame rate and a single 100/1000/2500 Multigigabit Ethernet uplink. Power comes from 802.3at or 802.3bt PoE, or the DC 12V jack. A dedicated scanning radio supports real-time RF spectrum visibility and automatic RF optimisation, and an integrated Bluetooth Low Energy radio handles IoT services.

The access point can be managed on-premises through a Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller or from the cloud in Meraki mode, and it supports Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Spaces and Cisco ISE.

FAQs

Q: What does the Z mean in CW9162I-Z?
A: The -Z suffix is the Reg Z regulatory domain variant of the Catalyst 9162I. The hardware and features match the other regulatory variants, but the radio settings follow the Reg Z domain.

Q: How is the CW9162I-Z powered?
A: It can be powered by 802.3at or 802.3bt PoE, or from the DC 12V power jack. A PoE switch port that supports one of these standards is the simplest option.

Q: What can manage this access point?
A: It can be managed on-premises with a Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller, or from the cloud in Meraki mode. It also supports Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Spaces and Cisco ISE.

Q: What switch port speed do I need for the uplink?
A: The access point has a single 100/1000/2500 Multigigabit RJ-45 uplink. A Multigigabit switch port lets it use the full 2.5G speed, and it will also link at 1G or 100M.

Q: Does it support the 6 GHz band?
A: Yes. It is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E access point with 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz radios. The 6 GHz radio supports channel widths up to 160 MHz.
