Description

The C8235-G2-MX is a cloud-managed secure router from the Meraki MX family, built for large and medium branch sites of up to about 1,000 devices. It combines a next-generation firewall, unified threat management and SD-WAN in a single appliance, and is deployed and administered through the Meraki dashboard with minimal pre-configuration. It also suits VPN concentrator roles and SASE/ZTNA architectures.

The unit provides 8x 2.5G multigigabit RJ45 ports and 2x 10G SFP/SFP+ ports, with up to 3 WAN uplinks available through LAN/WAN conversion. Two of the 2.5G ports support UPoE+ when the optional 230W AC PoE power supply is fitted, giving a 120W PoE budget. Maximum firewall throughput is 6 Gbps, site-to-site VPN throughput is 4 Gbps and advanced security throughput is 3 Gbps, with up to 750 recommended VPN tunnels.

This is a hardware SKU and requires a Meraki MX licence to operate. Enterprise, Advanced Security and SD-WAN licence options are available in 1, 3, 5 and 7 year terms. The appliance is a fanless 1 RU design with a 19-inch rack-mount tray, and runs from a standard 85 to 264 Vac input.

Q: Does the C8235-G2-MX need a licence?
A: Yes. It requires a Meraki MX licence to operate and the hardware SKU does not include a licence term. Enterprise (LIC-C8235-ENT), Advanced Security (LIC-C8235-SEC) and SD-WAN (LIC-C8235-SDW) licences are available in 1, 3, 5 and 7 year terms.

Q: How is PoE provided on this router?
A: Ports 6 and 7 support UPoE+ when the optional 230W AC PoE power supply is fitted, giving a 120W PoE budget. The standard 66W AC power supply does not supply PoE.

Q: Which SFP and SFP+ modules does it support?
A: The 10G ports support MA-SFP-10GB-SR, MA-SFP-10GB-LR, MA-SFP-10GB-LRM and MA-SFP-10GB-ER. MA-SFP-1GB-TX and MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 are supported on both the 10G and 1G ports.

Q: How many WAN uplinks can it use?
