Description

The MX480 is Juniper's modular, carrier-class edge router in an 8U chassis with six line-card slots. This MX480BASE-AC base bundle is the AC-powered configuration, built around one Switch Control Board and one Routing Engine, and runs Junos OS on the programmable Trio chipset. It suits service provider, cable, mobile and enterprise edge and metro deployments, covering Ethernet services, broadband and subscriber edge, and multiservice edge routing.

The chassis provides 480 Gbps of switch fabric capacity per slot, 9000 Gbps of routing capacity and 5760 Gbps of FEB throughput. Cooling is side-to-side through a single field-replaceable fan tray. The AC power system takes PWR-MX480-AC or PWR-MX480-1200-AC supplies, with the high-voltage PWR-MX480-2520-AC available as an option. Maximum AC consumption is 6400 W, or 3081 W on low-line input.

The chassis accepts MPCs, DPCs, MICs and PICs, with SCB/SCBE-class fabric, and supports 10/40/100GbE line cards. Routing Engine options are RE-S-1800, RE-S-X6-64G and RE-S-X6-128G, and fan tray options are FFANTRAY-MX480 and FFANTRAY-MX480-HC. Software feature licences for Junos OS are separate from the hardware.
