Description

The MX104 is a compact, environmentally hardened universal edge and aggregation router built on the Junos Trio chipset and running Junos OS. It suits mobile backhaul, metro Ethernet aggregation, enterprise WAN, business and residential edge, and high-density access or pre-aggregation in outdoor cabinets and remote terminals.

This MX104-AC-BASE is the AC-powered base chassis with 1 PSU and 1 Routing Engine. It provides 80 Gbps of system capacity, 4 MIC slots, and 4 built-in 10GbE SFP+ ports. It has two power supply slots for 1+1 redundancy and two Routing Engine slots for primary and backup operation. The Routing Engine is an RE-S-MX104 with a 1.8-GHz processor, 4 GB DDR3 RAM and 8 GB NAND flash. The 4 fixed 10GbE ports need a separately ordered licence to activate.

The AC supply is rated 100 to 240 VAC with 800 W maximum output. Typical draw is around 325 W without MICs and around 600 W fully loaded. The chassis operates from -40 to 65 C, is NEBS Level 3 compliant, and takes MX Series MICs and SFP+ optics including SFPP-10GE-SR and SFPP-10GE-LR.

FAQs

Q: Do the built-in 10GbE ports need a licence?
A: Yes. The 4 built-in 10GbE SFP+ ports require a separately ordered licence to activate. The router runs Junos OS.

Q: What power does the MX104-AC-BASE need?
A: It uses a PWR-MX104-AC supply rated 100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz, with 800 W maximum output. Each inlet needs a dedicated feed and a 10 A breaker at 100 VAC. AC and DC supplies cannot be mixed.

Q: Which optics work in the built-in SFP+ ports?
A: The 10GbE ports accept EX-SFP-10GE-SR, EX-SFP-10GE-USR, SFPP-10GE-SR, EX-SFP-10GE-LR, SFPP-10GE-LR and SFPP-10GE-LRM.

Q: Which interface cards fit the MIC slots?
A: The 4 MIC slots take MX Series MICs listed as supported on the MX80 and MX104 routers in the MX Series Interface Module Reference. MICs are hot-insertable and hot-removable.

Q: Can the MX104 run with redundant Routing Engines and power supplies?
A: Yes. The chassis has 2 Routing Engine slots for primary and backup operation and 2 power supply slots for 1+1 redundancy. The fan tray is also hot-swappable.
