The Cisco Catalyst WS-C3850-24XS-E is an enterprise-class stackable Layer 3 switch with 24 x 10G SFP+ ports and IP Services license. Designed for high-performance campus and data center access deployments, it delivers 480 Gbps StackWise stacking, integrated wireless controller capability supporting up to 100 access points, and advanced features including Flexible NetFlow, IPv4/IPv6 routing, and comprehensive security. The modular design supports optional network modules for additional 10G or 40G uplinks.

Q: What is the difference between IP Services and IP Base license?
A: IP Services provides advanced Layer 3 routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, and BGP, along with enhanced security and QoS features. IP Base offers basic Layer 3 routing with static routes, RIP, and up to 1,000 VLANs. The WS-C3850-24XS-E comes with IP Services pre-installed.

Q: Can this switch stack with other Catalyst 3850 models?
A: Yes, the WS-C3850-24XS-E can stack with other Catalyst 3850 Series switches using StackWise-480 cables, up to 9 switches per stack. However, it can only stack with other IP Services licensed switches. It cannot stack with IP Base or LAN Base models.

Q: Does this model support PoE?
A: No, the WS-C3850-24XS-E does not provide Power over Ethernet. It has 24 x 10G SFP+ fiber ports only. For PoE requirements, consider Catalyst 3850 models with RJ45 copper ports and PoE+ or UPOE capability.

Q: What network modules are compatible with this switch?
A: The WS-C3850-24XS-E supports the C3850-NM-8x10G (8 x 10G SFP+) and C3850-NM-2x40G (2 x 40G QSFP+) network modules. The C3850-NM-4-1G and C3850-NM-2-10G modules are not supported on 24-port SFP+ models.

Q: Can I use 1G SFP modules in the SFP+ ports?
A: Yes, the 10G SFP+ ports are backward compatible with 1G SFP modules, allowing flexible deployment and future migration to 10G as network requirements evolve. The switch will auto-negotiate to the appropriate speed.
