FAQs

Q: What network modules are compatible with the WS-C3850-24U-E?
A: The WS-C3850-24U-E supports the C3850-NM-4-1G (4 x 1G SFP) and C3850-NM-2-10G (2 x 1G SFP + 2 x 10G SFP+) network modules. Note that C3850-NM-4-10G is not supported on 24-port models.

Q: What is Universal Power over Ethernet (UPoE) and how is it different from PoE+?
A: UPoE provides up to 60W per port, compared to PoE+ (30W) and standard PoE (15.4W). This higher power budget supports devices like high-end PTZ cameras, thin clients, and 802.11ac Wave 2 access points.

Q: Can this switch act as a wireless LAN controller?
A: Yes, the Catalyst 3850 Series includes integrated wireless controller functionality, supporting up to 100 access points and 2,000 wireless clients per switch or stack, enabling converged wired and wireless management.

Q: What is the difference between IP Services and other license levels?
A: IP Services is the most advanced license tier for the Catalyst 3850, offering full Layer 3 routing capabilities including advanced protocols like OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, multicast routing, and enhanced security features.

Q: Does the WS-C3850-24U-E support stacking?
A: Yes, it supports Cisco StackWise-480 technology, providing up to 480 Gbps of stacking throughput and allowing up to 9 switches to be managed as a single logical unit for simplified operations and high availability.
