FAQs

Q: What is the maximum PoE power budget on this switch?
A: The WS-C3650-48PD-S provides 390W of PoE+ power with the included 640W AC power supply. The PoE budget can be increased by adding a second 640W or 1025W power supply in the second slot, or by replacing the existing supply with a higher-capacity 1025W unit.

Q: Does this switch support wireless controller functions?
A: Yes, the Catalyst 3650 Series includes embedded wireless controller capabilities through Cisco Unified Access. Each switch or stack can manage up to 50 access points and 1,000 wireless clients, enabling converged wired-wireless management from a single platform without requiring a separate wireless controller appliance.

Q: What routing protocols are supported with IP Base licensing?
A: The IP Base feature set includes static routing, RIPv1, RIPv2, RIPng, EIGRP stub routing, and OSPF for both IPv4 and IPv6. This enables Layer 3 routing at the access layer for inter-VLAN routing and basic dynamic routing without requiring an upgrade to IP Services.

Q: Can I stack multiple WS-C3650-48PD-S switches together?
A: Yes, you can stack up to 9 Cisco Catalyst 3650 switches using StackWise-160 technology with the C3650-STACK-KIT (sold separately). Stacking provides 160 Gbps of stack bandwidth, unified management, single IP configuration, and enhanced resiliency with cross-stack redundancy.

Q: What is the difference between IP Base and IP Services licensing?
A: IP Base provides essential Layer 3 routing (OSPF, EIGRP stub, static routes) and is suitable for most access-layer deployments. IP Services adds full EIGRP routing, BGP, advanced security features, and increased routing table sizes for more complex enterprise routing requirements. Licenses can be upgraded through Cisco software licensing.
