Description

The vEdge 5000 is a 1RU Viptela OS SD-WAN router from the Cisco SD-WAN vEdge range. It sits at the perimeter of a large branch, campus or data-centre site and forms a secure virtual overlay across any mix of WAN transports. It is the highest-density model in the vEdge range.

This AC-powered base chassis provides four Network Interface Module slots, 32 GB DDR4 memory and 120 GB of internal NAND storage. NIM options are 8 x 1GbE copper, 8 x 1GbE SFP or 4 x 10GbE SFP+, so the port mix can be matched to the site. NIMs are ordered separately. Power comes from hot-swappable AC supplies with redundancy support, rated for 100-240V input at up to 285W maximum consumption, and four hot-swappable fans cool the chassis with front-to-back airflow. A management Ethernet port, RJ-45 serial console and two USB 2.0 ports handle out-of-band access.

Compatible NIMs are NIM-8-1GE-RJ45, NIM-8-1GE-SFP and NIM-4-10GE-SFPP. The router is managed through Cisco SD-WAN vManage.

Q: Which NIMs can be fitted to the four slots?
A: The NIM-8-1GE-RJ45 (8 x 1GE copper), NIM-8-1GE-SFP (8 x 1GE SFP) and NIM-4-10GE-SFPP (4 x 10GE SFP+) are the supported modules. Different NIM types can be mixed across the slots.

Q: How does this router differ from other vEdge models?
A: All vEdge routers run the same Viptela OS software. The vEdge 5000 is the highest-density model, with four NIM slots, hot-swappable AC power supplies with redundancy support and four hot-swappable fans.

Q: What power does the vEdge 5000 need?
